Data deletion

You can delete your data yourself, at any time, from inside the app. This page says exactly what each control does.
Disconnect a messaging account
Accounts → Disconnect.
- The bridge signs out of your messaging account and discards its session for it.
- Your Matrix identity leaves the rooms for that account.
- We delete the conversations and messages we cached from that account from the application database.
- If the bridge cannot be reached, the disconnect fails with an error and nothing is removed, so we never claim a session is closed while it is still open. You can also end the session from your messaging app's own device list.
Your messages remain in the messaging app itself; we cannot and do not delete them there.
Delete Tone Memory
Tone Memory → Delete Tone Memory. Permanently deletes the learned style statistics, every example message, your editing patterns and ratings, any preferences you set, and the stored text of your AI drafts. Learning is switched off and your existing messages are not re-learned afterwards. You can also remove individual examples, pause learning, or stop using Tone Memory in drafts without deleting it.
Disconnecting a messaging account deletes its cached messages but not the style statistics already learned from them; use Delete Tone Memory to remove those.
Delete your account
Settings → Delete my account, confirmed with your password. In order, we:
- sign the bridge out of every connected messaging account;
- deactivate your private Matrix identity and ask the Matrix server to erase it;
- delete your user record and everything linked to it from the application database: sessions, connected accounts, conversations, messages, drafts, Tone Memory, and security events.
If a step fails (for example the bridge is unreachable), deletion stops and tells you, rather than leaving a live session behind. Try again, or contact us.
What may remain, and for how long
- Rate-limit counters containing an IP address or attempted email address expire within about a day.
- The Matrix server and the bridge keep their own databases. Erasure requests remove your profile and mark your messages for removal there, but those systems purge data on their own schedule, and attachments the bridge copied are removed by the Matrix server's own media cleanup rather than instantly.
- Server access logs kept by the hosting environment may contain IP addresses for a limited period.
- We do not currently keep automated database backups, so there is no backup copy to expire.
- Data already sent to the AI provider for a draft is governed by that provider's retention policy.
If you can't sign in
Write to shaurya.jain@whyspai.com from the email address on your account and ask for deletion. We will need to confirm the request really comes from you.
